She advanced her studies at UCLA, earning both a master’s degree in Biochemistry and a Ph.D. in Physical Organic Chemistry, where she worked with the renowned chemist Sol Winstein. Her postdoctoral research was conducted at Harvard University under the mentorship of Professor Paul Bartlett, further cementing her expertise in the field. Dr. Ehret did post-doctoral work at both Harvard University and Brandeis University.
Her Harvard project wasn’t going the way Dr. Bartlett thought, and rather than continue in chemistry, he thought she should go into real estate. Dr. Bartlett convinced her with his comments that women had no place in chemistry. He called a former student at Brandeis University, Dr. Saul Cohen, with whom she had applied for a job, and who took her on and got her the job at Polaroid since he was a good friend of Dr. Land, the originator of Polaroid.
During her tenure at ChemMotif, Dr. Ehret contributed to innovative advancements in chemistry. Her academic and professional endeavors include the publication of a thesis titled The Acid-Catalyzed Rearrangement of I- Cholesterol. She also authored influential research, such as her paper on “Thiazolidines” at Polaroid, and contributed to the Journal of Imaging Science.
Dr. Ehret’s affiliations include membership in the American Chemical Society, reflecting her commitment to the advancement of chemistry and her active participation in the professional community.
In her retirement, Dr. Ehret enjoys painting with watercolors, showcasing her creative talents and passion for the arts. Her diverse pursuits exemplify her well-rounded approach to life and dedication to intellectual and artistic endeavors.
